Back to the Basics - How NOT to do Safety in the Workplace

The steering committee for the Lake County Safety Council is proud to present the May virtual/webinar program ---  Back to the Basics - How NOT to do Safety in the Workplace - with keynote speaker Marissa Scott, MSOH, CIH, GSP - from SafeX.

The program is from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022.  This training event is provided by the LCSC steering committee.

The presentation will continue the theme established for this year "Back to the Basics" and cover a range of issues regarding how NOT to do safety in the workplace.

Scott will show common safety hazards and discuss the WRONG way to approach the solutions. She will present challenges such as chemical storage, ladder safety, electrical safety, PPE (personal protective equipment), machine guarding and more - illustrating the incorrect way to address safety issues.

Scott is an industrial hygiene consultant with SafeX who preforms industrial hygiene evaluations such as indoor air quality assessments, noise monitoring and inhalation exposure assessments for various contaminants. In addition, she conducts quantitative and qualitative fit testing and is an instructor in SafeX's Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene class.

Her presentation will talk about the different kinds of hazards (physical, biological and chemical) and some key warnings signs to NOT ignore when employees are exposed to them. She also will cover techniques for safety professionals to design communications based on audience -- and what NOT to do. This will include things like management presentations, employee trainings and safety coaching moments.

Prior to joining SafeX, Scott was a HSE professional/industrial hygienist with Marathon Petroleum Corporation. she also supported other company components' industrial hygiene programs throughout the United States. Scott received her bachelor of science in environmental science from the University of Toledo and she received her master of science in occupational health in industrial hygiene also from the University of Toledo.
